Obituary for Ella A. Newman

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, April 23, 1903—page 8, column 4:

Death of Miss Newman

The remains of Miss Ella A. Newman, who died at Union, Iowa, Tuesday April 15, at the home of her uncle, L.M. Carter, whom she was visiting, arrived here Saturday on the 2:18 train. They were taken to the home of her brother, Alvin Newman.

Miss Newman was the daughter of Miss Pheobe [sic] Newman and was 24 years old. She had not been in good health for five or six years. Six weeks before her death she went on a visit to her uncle. About four weeks later she was taken ill and her mother was sent for and went to her. A few days before death it was seen that she could not live and her brother, Will Newman, was summoned, but before he arrived she expired. The direct cause of death was heart failure. The deceased was a member of the Friends church. She was of a lovable disposition and had many friends, all of whom mourn her untimely end. The funeral was held at Mill Creek church Sunday morning. Services were conducted by Rev. John T. Hadley, of Pecksburg. Interment was in the Mill Creek cemetery.
