Margaret Turpin Schenck Hufford of Brownsburg, passed away on Palm Sunday, April 4, 2004 after a short illness and a wonderful life of almost 96 years.

She was born on June 3, 1908 to Homer and Ethel Turpin and lived on a farm near Fayette, IN. with her two brothers, John (deceased) and Robert. She graduated from Perry Central High School and prepared herself in a School of Accounting.

As a young wife and mother, she faced tragedy when in 1930 her husband, Carl Schenck was killed in an auto accident. In 1934, she married Floyd B. Hufford, who would be her loving husband for over 53 years.

Huffords Hardware Store in Brownsburg became well known in the community and flourished for years with her working as bookkeeper and helping manage inventory and sales. At the same time she was raising 4 sons and caring for a small daughter, Marilyn, who died in infancy.

She was a mother advisor to young men in the neighborhood, active in the church and community. With a love for travel, she remembered most a trip to the Holy Land. Her appreciation for God and his creation was enhanced as she watched birds and nature from her picture window as she lived in the same home for 68 years.

She is remembered for her strong faith, love, friendship and compassion. She was a member of Brownsburg Christian Church, the DAR and Eastern Star.

She is survived by her 4 sons, Jack Schenck, William, Thomas and Donald Hufford; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg with calling from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 7.
