NOTE: In May 1905, a new state law took effect, requiring the recording of information about the bride and groom (such as their birthdates and birthplaces, as well as their occupations and information about any previous marriages) as well as information about their parents. In Hendricks County, this information from the marriage applications was kept in a separate set of books from the marriage record (which only recorded the names of the bride and groom, the date the marriage was performed, and the name of the person who performed the marriage). These marriage application books were used from May 1905 through May 1950; beginning in June 1950, the application information was recorded in the same set of books as the marriage record.
Hendricks County's marriage application books have been digitized by the Hendricks County Government. They have also been microfilmed. That microfilm is available at the Plainfield Public Library and the Indiana State Library, as well as through the Family History Library. The Hendricks County Clerk has the set of marriage application books.
This index is not a comprehensive listing of all the information that was included - you should always look at the actual entry in the marriage application book.
This index covers all 28 volumes of the marriage application books, covering 1 May 1905 through 27 May 1950.
